Farmers' Training and Capacity Building

Empowering Farmers with Knowledge for Sustainable Agriculture

At the Eko Guarantee Division of Encon, we believe that knowledge is the key to transforming the agricultural landscape for small and marginalized farmers. Our Farmers’
Training and Capacity Building Program is designed to equip farmers with sustainable agricultural techniques, post-harvest management skills, and alternative livelihood
opportunities such as beekeeping and apiculture. Through interactive workshops, on-field demonstrations, and expert-led training modules, we help farmers transition towards climateresilient, profitable, and ecologically sustainable farming systems.

Our Training Approach

We focus on a hands-on, participatory approach that ensures farmers can easily adopt and apply the knowledge gained. Our training programs include:
• On-site Demonstrations – Live field training sessions to demonstrate best practices.
• Workshops and Seminars – Engaging sessions with experts, researchers, and successful practitioners.
• Farmer Field Schools (FFS) – Continuous learning and experimentation in real farming conditions.
• Community-Led Learning – Strengthening farmer-to-farmer knowledge exchange for long-term impact.

Key Training Areas

1. Sustainable Agriculture Training

With climate change and environmental degradation posing challenges to agriculture, we provide training on:
• Agroecology and Soil Health Management – Techniques such as composting, green manuring, and mulching to improve soil fertility naturally.
• Integrated Pest and Disease Management (IPM) – Use of biological controls, botanical pesticides, and eco-friendly practices to manage pests sustainably.
• Water Conservation and Irrigation Management – Training on rainwater harvesting, drip irrigation, and water-efficient farming.
• Crop Diversification and Organic Farming – Encouraging multi-cropping, intercropping, and organic farming techniques for resilience and profitability.
• Climate-Resilient Farming – Strategies to adapt to changing climatic conditions, including drought-resistant crops and soil moisture conservation techniques.

2. Post-Harvest Technology and Value Addition

Reducing post-harvest losses is crucial to ensuring better income for farmers. We train them in:
• Scientific Storage Techniques – Proper drying, cleaning, and storage methods to prevent spoilage and pest infestation.
• Packaging and Branding – Guidance on packaging techniques that enhance shelf life and market appeal.
• Processing and Value Addition – Training on turning raw produce into value-added products such as dried fruits, herbal extracts, pickles, and organic processed foods.
• Market Linkages – Connecting farmers with market opportunities through certification and branding.

3. Beekeeping and Apiculture Training

Beekeeping is not only an excellent source of additional income but also vital for biodiversity and crop pollination. Our apiculture training includes:
• Introduction to Beekeeping – Understanding the role of bees in agriculture and biodiversity.
• Bee Colony Management – Training on handling bee colonies, ensuring hive health, and seasonal management.
• Honey Production and Processing – Guidance on ethical honey extraction, filtering, and packaging.
• Value-Added Bee Products – Training on making beeswax candles, propolis, royal jelly, and pollen-based products.

Training Beneficiaries

Our programs are designed for:
• Small and Marginalized Farmers looking to enhance productivity and income.
• Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs) and Cooperatives seeking technical support for collective farming.
• Young Entrepreneurs in Agriculture who want to explore sustainable farming and agribusiness.
• Women Farmers and SHGs (Self-Help Groups) focusing on organic farming and value addition.

Training Impact

Through our structured training programs, we have successfully:

  • Trained thousands of farmers in sustainable and organic farming techniques.
  • Reduced post-harvest losses through improved storage and value addition.
  • Established community-led beekeeping enterprises for additional income generation.
  • Increased farmers’ access to organic and ethical markets through certification support.
